ABOUT RAMONA LISA

Ramona Lisa Ortiz-Smith, MBA, has been practicing meditation for over 25 years and studying the Dharma and sitting silent Vipassana meditation retreats in the Theravada tradition for over 12 years. She graduated from East Bay Meditation Center’s (EBMC) Commit to Dharma Program (C2D3) and Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s (SRMC) Dedicated Practitioners Program (DPP6) and is currently enrolled in EBMC's Spiritual Teacher and Leadership (STL) training. Ramona Lisa served as a Retreat Manager at SRMC for almost 5 years until her tenure was interrupted by the impacts of COVID-19. In an effort to continue her dedicated service to the Dharma and other meditation and mindfulness communities, she has established herself as an independent contractor. Her clients and partnerships include Peace At Any Pace, Inc., Deep Time LiberationEast Bay Meditation Center, Big Bear Retreat Center/InsightLA, Mills College Love and Liberation Sangha, Hutson Consulting Services, Inc. and Gathering Roots Retreat and Wellness Center.


Ramona Lisa is a Visiting Teacher at EBMC and she teaches for the Mills College Love and Liberation Sangha, where she also serves on the leadership board. Ramona Lisa is known for her integrity, dedication to customer service, humor and love for the Dharma. She is a published journalist for the Mills Quarterly alumnae magazine and student newspaper. Ramona Lisa’s MBA in Management and BA in Business Economics, with a Minor in Ethnic Studies, are both from Mills College.

  • Support Dharma and meditation teachers with the development and management of online and in-person silent meditation retreats, sitting groups daylong and multi-day events

  • Support and coach Dharma leaders through the establishment of new mindfulness and Dharma based organizations

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to Dharma leaders and their teams

  • Develop and lead Dharma and meditation sitting groups and events for Dharma based, mindfulness and secular organizations

RETREAT MANAGEMENT

  • Manage all aspects of silent meditation retreats, daylong and multi-day events 

  • Provide all levels of administrative and program management support to retreat teachers and their teams 

  • Serve as liaison and primary point of contact for teachers, event staff, venue staff and event participants

  • Coach and triage participants through the retreat experience
